Capt. Herbert Johnson, 54, a 33-year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department died tonight after he and another firefighter were injured in a 2-11 alarm fire that spread quickly through a Gage Park home, apparently trapping crews inside in a flashover fire.
he has numerous family members on the Chicago Police Department.
CHICAGO, IL - Two firefighters were seriously injured in a 2-11 alarm fire on the South Side that also brought an Emergency Medical Services Plan response from fire officials this evening.
Firefighters on the scene called a Mayday response for a trapped firefighter, but the firefighter was located, and the response secured, with two firefighters injured and taken to area hospitals in serious-to-critical condition, Chicago Fire Department spokeswoman Meg Ahlheim said.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 5:15 p.m. for the fire on the 2300 block of West 50th Place. The building was a frame home, 2-1/2 stories tall and about 25 feet by 40 feet, Ahlheim said.CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL DETAILS
