Rockford Illinois - 3rd Fatal Police Shooting this Year - Rockford Police fatally shoot man with knife

Rockford Illinois was once the SCREW CAPITAL OF THE WORLD
Manufacturing more "SCREWS" than other place in the world.

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Police officials in Rockford say officers fatally shot a man who charged at them with a knife and had used a child as a shield during a domestic dispute.
It's the third fatal officer-involved shooting this year for the Rockford Police Department. That's the most since 2007, when the department logged four officer-involved shootings, one of which wasn't fatal.
Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia (fih-DOO'-shuh) says 31-year-old Demetrius Bennett was shot multiple times at his home.
Rockford Police Chief Chet Epperson says Thursday's incident began when police were escorting a woman who asked for help retrieving her belongings from the home.
Epperson says Bennett confronted them with a knife. He says the officers tried to use pepper spray but Bennett charged them and they fired.
The shooting is under investigation.
