A man who police said had a stolen gun belonging to slain Chicago police officer Clifton Lewis stashed inside a cooler at his Austin neighborhood home has been charged.
Dimitri Mitchell, 19, of the 800 block of North Leamington Avenue, was charged Saturday with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and possession of a stolen firearm, police said. Mitchell was ordered held on $150,000 bond today.
When officers got to his home Thursday afternoon to execute a search warrant, they knocked and waited but ended up forcing their way in. They found Mitchell in the bathroom.
