Chicago Police killed a gunman late Friday night in the far South Side, police and a union spokesman said, citing preliminary reports from officers.

The shooting happened about 9:40 p.m. near the intersection of 110th Place and South Wentworth Avenue in the Roseland neighborhood.

People at a repass ceremony at a block party called police to report people with guns, Fraternal Order of Police Spokesman Pat Camden said.

Camden said the men weren't invited to the party and party goers pointed them out to responding officers from a Calumet District tactical team, who saw the two armed men and gave chase.

One jumped out of the car and ran after one of the men while the other stayed in the car and drove down the block a little bit before joining the chase, Camden said.
