Barry Lind, of Winnetka, was a smart businessman but an idiot when he didn't look both ways before crossing the street.... He's now road-kill!

A prominent Chicago business leader who founded one of the nation’s largest discount futures brokerages has died.

Barry Lind, of Winnetka, died in a California emergency room early this morning after he was struck by a car in Rancho Mirage Wednesday night.

Lind, 74, who formerly served on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange board of directors, co-founded Chicago-based Lind-Waldock in 1965, a discount futures brokerage firm that grew into one of country’s largest before it was sold in 2000.

Lind is also credited with helping modernize the CME and with helping create the International Monetary Market. He was the cofounder and managing partner of Silver Young, a private equity firm in Chicago that invests in real estate, restaurant development and other ventures.
