An autopsy today determined a 55-year-old South Loop man died Monday in part from injuries he suffered during an assault, authorities said. The victim, identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Joseph Sallas, was found unresponsive in his home in the 1900 block of South State Street at 5:45 a.m. Monday, according to police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.

Sallas’ girlfriend who lives with him told police that he was injured during a physical altercation early that day in the 1300 block of South Wabash Avenue but declined to seek medical attention, said Zala.
