Illegal Mexican Michael Torres, 24, who claims he is about to get a big lawsuit check from the city is charged with bribery

Boasting he was “going to make lots of money’’ from a lawsuit against the city, a man offered officers $5,000 let him go after he was arrested for public drinking in the Little Village neighborhood, authorities say.

Michael Torres, 24, was charged with bribery and ordered held on $80,000 bail, officials said.

Officers spotted Torres drinking from a 12-ounce can of beer "on the public way" when they were called to a large disturbance in the 2500 block of South St. Louis Avenue about 6:45 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Torres was arrested and taken to the Ogden District police station. While there, he told officers that "he has a pending lawsuit against the Chicago Police Department and that he is going to make lots of money,’’ according to a police report.

He then offered an officer $5,000 to let him go, the report said.
