Police surround Matteson Home Depot in search for male black armed robbers

MATTESON, ILLINOIS - Authorities evacuated and surrounded a Home Depot late Sunday night in south suburban Matteson as they searched for two men who had robbed another store at gunpoint.
Two men wearing ski masks walked into a Radio Shack at 4846 W. 211th St. about 6:43 p.m. and took money and electronic equipment, according to a Matteson Police statement, which added that one of the men wielded a handgun. A specially trained police dog picked up the robbers’ scents, the statement said, and police followed the dog to a nearby Home Depot at 20808 Cicero Ave., where the scent was lost.
Matteson Mayor Andre Ashmore said police thought the men were hiding somewhere in the store. Matteson police remained at the Home Depot as of 10:20 p.m., said Brian Mitchell, Matteson’s chief administrative officer. The South Suburban Emergency Response Team helped in the hunt for the suspects. No one was injuried during the robbery, the police statement said.
