Word is that a suspect is in custody.
The suspect turned up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg and multiple bruises on his chest (possibly from being shot in the chest while wearing a bulletproof vest)
The suspect is a LATIN KING gang member.

WANTED SUSPECT'S DESCRIPTION:
Police are looking for a suspect described as a male hispanic (most likely an illegal alien) who is about 5-foot-8 inches tall, between 25 and 30 years old and with a hairstyle that is short on the side with a fade on top, police said. Police believe the suspect may have fled in a small or mid-sized silver four door car, police said.
REPORT: Off duty Chicago Police Officer shot in the hand and side of his chest in the 008th District at or about 6300 South Nashville. Attempted robbery by Male Hispanics - Shots fired at and by the police.
