Authorities: 'Relentless' investigation ties early released parolee Michael Steven Gay, 21, to shooting, robbery

A judge denied bail today for a 21-year-old parolee accused of shooting and robbing a man on the South Side in the fall, authorities said.
 
Michael Steven Gay, 21, appeared in court Saturday where a judge denied bail, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office.
 
Gay, of the 200 block of West 95th Street, was charged with one count each of attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and aggravated battery, according to a news release issued by police News Affairs. Gay also was wanted on a warrant for a probation violation.
 
On Nov. 25, 2012, officers responded to a call of shots fired on the 2700 block of East 80th Street just before 1:30 a.m., and found a 19-year-old man on the lower stairwell inside a residence with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the release.

The victim was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County for treatment.
 
Area South detectives learned attackers entered the building and robbed the victim before shooting the man several times and fleeing the scene, the release said.
 
“Relentless investigation’’ by detectives led to the positive identification of Gay as one of the attackers, the release said. Information was given to officers in the Fugitive Apprehension Section, who found Gay Friday morning in the 200 block of West 95th Street, the release said.
 
Gay was released on parole on June 3, 2011, after being sentenced to 4 years in Illinois Department of Corrections for an aggravated robbery conviction, according to IDOC.
